April Vradenburg
Community Engagement Director
April was born and raised in Ohio, where she excelled as a Division 1 gymnast at Kent State University, earning a degree in American Sign Language and Special Education. With 15 years of experience teaching elementary students, April is passionate about education and helping children thrive. After moving to Florida, she met her husband, and together they have two young daughters, both of whom love to dance. An active member of the PTO, April enjoys supporting her daughters’ school and fostering a strong sense of community.
In her free time, April enjoys spending quality time with her family, taking family vacations, and spending time outdoors. Every summer, they look forward to vacationing in the mountains and also enjoy cruising together.
After meeting Keri and learning about the Live Like Jake Foundation, April discovered a deep passion for water safety and preventing childhood drowning. She is now dedicated to raising awareness. April is committed to making a difference in her community and beyond.
Brittany Pace
Awareness Director
Brittany grew up in Royal Palm Beach and graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of North Florida. Her husband is a U.S. Navy Chief, and after 8 years away, they decided to move back to South Florida and settled in Jupiter. They have two wonderful children and love to spend time going to the movies or traveling together. She taught in several different capacities for 5 years and most recently worked for over 6 years in Fundraising and Development at another local non-profit organization. Brittany thrives on planning ahead and staying organized. When she is not furthering the mission of the Live Like Jake foundation and bringing awareness to child water safety, she is serving as the Co-President of the PTO Board for her children’s school and enjoying time with family and friends.
Katie Smith
Events and Outreach Director
Katie has worn a lot of hats in the worlds of coaching, event planning, and nonprofit work all centered around her passions for water safety and keeping people active. She’s been teaching swimming since 1998 and became an Infant Swimming Resource Instructor in 2009. Katie has also coached cycling, scuba diving, and wake surfing, always focusing on making sports accessible and fun for everyone. Katie holds a bachelors degree in Sociology with minors in Cultural Anthropology and Dance Performance. She also earned a culinary and pastry arts degree and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
As the Event and Outreach Director at Live Like Jake, Katie gets to combine everything she loves: organizing amazing events like the 5K and Be the Light Gala, connecting with the community, and making a difference.
